Dancing, it is an art that involves moving rhythmically
usually to music, using prescribed or improvised steps and gestures. Dance has
certainly been an essential part of ceremony, rituals, celebrations and
entertainment since before the birth of the earliest human civilizations.
Malaya Ka Na Pilipino was organized by our 4th
Year MAPEH Teacher, Mr. Gabby S. Lamsen. He said that we will present our Dance
on August 20, 2013 but due to the “habagat” and heavy rainfalls, it was
postponed. After days of waiting, Mr. Gabby told us that we will perform our
dance on September 17, 2013.
During the first days of practicing, I was late once because
of participating in the Bike for Life Organization made by our former Mayor
Bobby Eusebio. Polishing steps, making
the routine perfect, etc. were our last practice for the morning of September
17. We ate our lunch and put make-up on our faces. Prayers were said by Leira
and then we went down to get ready to leave school. But there’s a problem, the
school service is not available so we rented tricycles to Tanghalang Pasiguenos
in order to make it to the contest.
When we reached Tanghalang Pasiguenos, the contest hasn’t
started yet. Some groups adjusted their positions in the stage and so as we.
Then the announcer called all the trainers to have the drawing of lots. Sir
Gabby got number 6. When the 1st 5 contestants performed, we were so
scared because their performance was clean and the movement is in the right
timing.
And then group No. 6
were about to perform
After we performed, we’d hope to snatch only a place, not
hoping for a championship. After the 3rd-1st Runner-up
was called, I’d tell Sir Gabby sorry for my mistakes. But when the announcer
said “And the Champion for the Malaya Ka Na Interpretative Dance is, Number 6.”
We ran in the middle of the stage and jumped for joy not really expecting to be
the champion.
Congratulations to us, Team Araw.
